UN Special Rapporteur welcomes Wikileaks revelations

The UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of speech and press, Frank La Rue,
has endorsed the Afghanistan-revelations of the Internet portal
Wikileaks. Published by Wikileaks military documents were indeed
"shameful" for many have said La Rue on Friday at a human rights
conference of the city of Nuremberg. "The U.S. national security but had
been threatened by Wikileaks releases ever", said the native of
Guatemala, UN special envoy and former radio reporter.

Wikileaks had published last year, thousands of explosive documents
about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and diplomatic dispatches. The
publications were brought into the U.S. in particular explanations.

At the same time, La Rue turned against the prosecution of the Wikileaks
founder Julian Assange in connection with the revelations. Journalists
would do the right and the duty to draw attention to human rights
violations. "Intimidation by the government should not give it," said La
Rue. Same time, journalists should not let up, to denounce human rights
violations in their countries. "There are very few journalists who do
that. You are honored," said the chief UN representative.
