Lufthansa: no phone calls, send text messages may

On flights of Lufthansa passengers will continue to not make calls. The
Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said, according to a report of the
Süddeutsche Zeitung. "The passengers will appreciate that there is a
place of rest on board." Maybe in the future but the passengers could
send and receive SMS messages, which could technically be separate from
the phone.

On long-haul flights, passengers have the opportunity since the end of
2010, via an onboard internal hotspot called Flynet during the flight to
go with 6 Mbit / s (download, 1 Mb / s upload) to the Internet.
Lufthansa cooperates with Panasonic Avionics Corporation and Deutsche
Telekom. The use costs € 10.95 for an hour or 3500 miles. € 19.95 for 24
hours or 7000 miles are payable.

Already more than three years aboard Lufthansa customers surveys had
shown that the majority of them feel disturbed by mobile phone
conversations. His time, the airline began to focus on the
re-introduction of a high-speed Internet access for passengers. By the
end of 2006, Lufthansa had been cooperating with the aircraft
manufacturer Boeing Flynet. This placed the satellite-based Internet
service in late 2006, however, for cost reasons.
