Mathematical model for faster resolution jam

Mathematical model for faster resolution jam

The researcher Hyun Keun Lee and Beom Jun Kim of Seoul National
University have developed a relatively simple method to be implemented,
with the congestion could be resolved faster. The reported Technology
Review in its online edition. Calculated using mathematical models, Lee
and Kim to the flow of traffic in a way that corresponds to the average
driving behavior - also situations, such as speeding or were factored in
to sudden acceleration or braking.

However, there is another ingredient: All vehicles in the model provide
speed and position of its neighbors, and that information flow through
the entire chain. Know that such a car that is still in the free flow of
traffic that it continues to forward traffic jam already.

Once that happens, all vehicles on the algorithm behind the dam to a
defensive driving behavior: The cars hold a greater safety margin than
is really necessary would be. This then ensures that vehicles meet on
the slow jam. At the same time, the vehicles that are already through
the jam by accelerated - by means of more and more cars now included
cruise control. This means that more cars drive out of the jam. The
result: congestion dissolves much faster.

What is interesting about the work of Lee and Kim is the fact that they
would fit with today's technology can be relatively easy in the current
generation of vehicles. A central control is not necessary, only the
onboard electronics would play in the vehicles. But the researchers can
think up a practical implementation, they must test their model even
further. Be ruled out that it comes to negative effects, because drivers
are behaving irrationally. Moreover, is not yet determined what
percentage of vehicles would be equipped with technology to make it work.
