W3C working group established to User Tracking

W3C working group established to User Tracking

Under the name Tracking Protection Working Group, W3C has established a
working group to develop until the middle of next year, mechanisms by
which users can defend themselves against the pursuit of their steps on
the Web. These are intended both to an HTTP header ("Do not track", DNT)
or serve a property of the Document Object Model (DOM). In addition, the
working group thinks in short lists for blocking tracking elements.

Do-not-track header in Firefox use Internet Explorer version 4 or 9 and
Firefox already allows the user to use the HTTP header (see the figure
from the Firefox Preferences), and for the safari is provided in version
5.1. Even in September there will be first drafts. The standards
(Recommendations) finish, the W3C is planning for June 2012.
