WLAN MAC addresses: Google promises Opt-Out

The mobile location services from Google and Microsoft use to determine
the position not only GPS data, but also the names of surrounding
wireless base stations. At Google, we know that the group uses this not
only the wireless network name, but also captures the unique MAC addresses.

In June it was announced , that Google considers not only the MAC
addresses of stationary wireless routers, but also of notebooks and
smartphones. It landed in the Google database and the addresses of
devices that had never been operated as a Wi-Fi hotspots.

Google now wants to draw conclusions: in the "European Public Policy
Blog," promises Peter Fleischer , Google will in the course of autumn
provide a service that can be the owner specifically recognized devices
can unsubscribe (opt-out).

Fleischer works at Google with the title "Global Privacy Counsel" as the
Privacy Liaison. In his first blog entry specifies in detail the
