Sybase database compression sets in after

Sybase database compression sets in after

Currently taking place on SAP's TechEd conference, the company introduced the first version of the relational database AdaptiveServer Enterprise (ASE) since the takeover of the Sybase ASEmanufacturer. There had been improvements in Release 15.7, especially in managing large amounts of data, the management and application development.

Thus, for the first time not only compress backups, but also theactual ASE data, and in either database, table or partition basis.Smaller unstructured objects (LOBs), the server stores now in thedatabase row, which should speed up access and save space.

For working with unstructured data from ASE is a new concept andmatching T-SQL functions. They allow to work with so-called LOBpointers instead of the actual data. This will save clients the localstore and edit large objects. The JDBC driver provides appropriateclasses for accessing these pointers ready ODBC applications to work with the T-SQL functions. Stored procedures also allow nowLOB parameters.

At T-SQL Sybase elsewhere some already longer available commands like MERGE and SELECT FOR UPDATE has retrofitted. The throughput of the database will increase a lowerlatency for SQL queries, and a better adaptation of the core tomulti-processor architectures. A white paper describes the new features in detail.
