Google buys Zagat restaurant guide

Google buys Zagat restaurant guide

The Internet service provider Google has taken over the restaurant guide
Zagat, which is widespread, especially in the United States. Zagat also
gives tips on shopping, or stay. Google is taking a further step in the
direction of local websites.

"Zagat is a cornerstone of our local offers," the responsible manager
Marissa Mayer, Google said on Thursday in the company blog. She wants to
link the Zagat content closely with the search engine and mapping
service Google Maps. A price for the acquisition they did not name.

Zagat was founded 32 years ago by husband and wife Nina and Tim Zagat.
The two announced in a communication to its users, also continues to
remain on board and actively support the merger. "We are thrilled to see
our baby in such good hands."

Zagat was great as a handy booklet for individual regions. Meanwhile,
the veteran of the industry needs to maintain many imitators on the
Internet. Already in 2008 the couple had tried Zagat to sell the
restaurant guide, but made in the looming economic crisis, one step back.
