Schott manufactures specialty glass for Smartphones

The Mainz Schott AG, a subsidiary of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung rises, as a
supplier of ultra-hard glass into the rapidly growing market for smart
phones and tablets. Chairman Udo Ungeheuer presented on Thursday in
front of Jena particularly robust among other things, cover glasses for
Internet-enabled mobile phones. The "Xensation" mentioned glasses should
be scratch resistant and shatter-proof and a counterpoint to Corning's
Gorilla glass, which is among other things, the iPhone 4 and in the
Amazon Fire installed.

"Xensation" has been developed by Schott in Thuringia and is to be
produced in batches from early 2012 in Jena. The special glass is "a
prime example, that today is still worthwhile to develop and produce in
Germany," says the head of the Mainz company. Would expect with the new
glass touch an annual turnover in the three-digit million euro range.
Scotland has around 17,000 employees, including about 6,000 employees in
Germany.
