The German security company Avira has released its 2012-generation anti-virus programs. Here, the producer is separated from the long-term product "AntiVir", the scanner is now called "Avira Antivirus Premium", the security suite called "Avira Internet Security" and the free version of the scanner will now operate as "Avira Free Anti Virus". The business types were renamed to "Avira Professional Security" and "Avira Server Security".

New features include a quick installation that sets up the program with two clicks, then downloads the latest virus signatures and starts a quick scan of the system. Avira continues now also offers a game mode, the scanner is silent when running full screen applications. In addition, the manufacturer wants to protect the components and the repair function have improved. The commercial versions for home users also offer "live support" - customer service directly via remote access.

Prices remain unchanged: the premium scanner costs 20 € for one year and one user, the suite twice. The free version downloads new signatures once a day maximum. It has no games and no behavioral detection mode. The setup program from Avira Free Anti-Virus provides the facility of "Avira free search toolbar" on the integration option is disabled by default.

AV-Test complained in particular that the Avira products do not remember which files they have ever been classified as harmless to them with follow-up scans to skip. False positives were not objectionable in the laboratory test.
